Jake Alderman wins the Newton Longville National B Road Race

Jake Alderman - Pro Cyclist

Jake Alderman [Saint Piran] wins the Newton Longville National B Road Race, only two weeks after becoming a Duchy Coaching athlete.

Jake has been a friend and training partner of Chris’ for a number of years, so when he caught wind of Chris and Will launching a coaching company, he was quick to register his interest. Of the opportunity Jake explains, ‘I’d been asking Chris to coach me for years…there aren’t many guys in the U.K. with as much knowledge, and as many big results as him.’ After a couple of meetings, Duchy Coaching offered Jake a spot, making him the first official Elite Duchy Coaching athlete.

After only two weeks of working with Head Coach Chris Opie, Jake won his first National B Road Race, the biggest win of his career, against a quality field. Jake explained a bit about the lead up to the race, saying “my form was good from a solid couple of months training and racing, but Chris really sharpened me up in the last two weeks leading up to the race….he got my top end power where it needed to be, which ended up with me getting my hands in the air for my first National B win!”. We asked Jake where he felt Chris was most useful in the build up to the race; “Chris’ coaching was spot on, which I knew it would be, but I’d say actually the most useful thing for me was the advice he was giving me, especially the day before…he did an amazing job of totally taking the pressure off me. I went to the race feeling focused, but also really relaxed!”.

Chris has really enjoyed working with Jake, and is confident that if Jake continues to progress at this rate, he has a very bright future in the sport. Chris told us that ‘working with Jake is really interesting…balancing his job, his sport and his personal life is key to his success on the bike…I am confident he will succeed at the highest level of the sport, if he put his mind to it’.

Welcome to Duchy Coaching Jake! We’re excited to see how far this guy will go.
